Top 50 Best Bars For 2024 Have Been Revealed

Move to London. Put New York aside. There’s a new cosmopolitan cocktail capital: Barcelona is home to Paradiso, the new best bars in the world.

For the first time since the World’s 50 Best Bars list was created in 2009, a bar outside of New York or London takes the top spot on the list.

Paradiso, from owners Giacomo Giannotti and Margarita Sader, is a Mediterranean-style speakeasy, accessible through the freezer door of a pastrami bar in Barcelona’s trendy El Born neighborhood. The bar rose from No. 3 in 2021.

It’s a great honor to win and a great responsibility. We will work hard to deliver and stay true to our principles. Our cocktails try to stimulate creativity,” Giannotti told 50 Best on Tuesday evening.

“But it’s hard work. The more you work, the more you discover and the more creative you can be. We’re going to celebrate and then go back to the bar to do what we do”

The top 50 winners were announced on Tuesday evening in Barcelona, the first time the ceremony has taken place outside London.

The bustling Catalan city is home to three of the top 10 bars on the 2024 list. Sips was the “highest climber” this year, jumping from the number 1.37 spot in 2021 to no. 3 this year. Two idiots arrived at number 7.

Four bars in Spain made the top 50 – Salmon Guru in Madrid was in 15th place.

Italy also did a great job in the top 50 for 2024, with bars from Rome, Florence, Milan and Naples all making the list. Newcomer L’Antiquario Napoli gained the number 1 spot. 46, putting the southern city of Naples in the top 50 for the first time.

Florence also made its first appearance on the list, as did Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.

Even though London has lost the top spot, the city remains one of the world’s top cocktail destinations. Five London bars made the list, including Connaught Bar, which fell from first place for two years in a row to eighth place in 2024.

London’s Tayēr + Elementary, which awards show host Mark Sansom called “one of the quirkiest bars on the planet”, retained its top spot. 2 from 2021.

Europe dominated with more top bars than any other region.

The list is the result of votes from 650 bartenders and bar owners, drinks writers and cocktail experts.

New York rebounded from a weaker-than-usual performance in 2021 to become the city with the highest-ranked bars on the 2024 list. New York is home to six bars in the top 50, including Double Chicken Please at No. 1. 6 and Katana Kitten at no. 9.

Double Chicken Please won the highest new entry award for its excellent debut. Sansom, content director for World’s 50 Best Bars, told CNN Travel that the bar offers “almost Michelin-quality food,” an example of the growing emphasis on food programs at the world’s best bars.

In Singapore, Manhattan’s No. 33 also offers “really, really fine bar food,” Sansom said.

Mexico City is another North American cocktail capital with four bars ranked in the top 50, including no. 4 Licorería Limantour, winner of the Best Bar in North America award.

Cartagena’s Alquímico is the best bar in South America at number 10. There are three bars in Buenos Aires and one in Lima on the list.

In Asia, Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong all had bars in the top 50. At number 12, Jigger & Pony in Singapore won Asia’s Best Bar.

Dubai had three bars in the top 50, including no. 38 Zuma, best bar in the Middle East and Africa winner for the third year in a row.

In India, New Delhi-based Sidecar climbed 21 places to 26th.

The Best Bar in Australasia is Maybe Sammy in Sydney at No. 29.

Double Chicken Please in New York was No. 6 in its first year on the list.

With bar attendance dampened by the pandemic, customers are more likely to stay in one place, Sansom said, and bars are offering more live entertainment and increasing their dining programs to keep customers busy for hours.

And the lines between eating and drinking are blurring.

“Techniques and flavors associated with cooking and fine dining are emerging in drinks and cocktails,” Sansom said, again mentioning New York’s Double Chicken Please.

The bar’s Back Room menu offers a wide range of culinary-inspired cocktails: from the Waldorf Salad (whiskey-based with apple, celery, ginger ale and walnut bitters) to the Japanese Cold Noodle (rum-based with pineapple , cucumber, coconut, lime and sesame). oil).

Two Schmucks in Barcelona also focuses on food-related flavors.

His Curry Colada is one of the best cocktails I think I’ve ever had,” Sansom said.

Tools like the juicer, which has moved from science labs to restaurant kitchens in recent decades, have also appeared in craft cocktail bars in the past decade, he said.

And personalized glasses that sometimes inspire the drink rather than the other way around are increasingly important at many bars, including the world’s best bar, Paradiso.

After the last two years, great hospitality is more important than ever, Sansom said.

“Post-pandemic, bars are much more aware of the value of each individual customer and how they make them feel wanted, safe when they enter these environments.”
