Record-Breaking Tourist Arrivals in Jamaica in 2023 Surpasses Pre-Pandemic Levels

Jamaica reports visitor arrivals of approximately 4.1 million in 2023, up 16% from last year’s figures and a 7.5% increase from pre-pandemic figures in 2019.

More than half of the island’s visitors, around 3 million, come from the USA alone.

And with a record winter tourist season looming and ten consecutive quarters of growth, Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett is definitely in an optimistic mood.

The Minister noted: “Jamaica continues to break records in the number of tourist arrivals in a spectacular growth pattern. It is deeply gratifying to continue to be a destination of choice for travelers from around the world and from our primary market, the United States, and to maintain our position as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations. Based on arrival numbers to date, we expect to see significant expansion for the eleventh consecutive quarter.”

Donovan White, Director of Tourism at the Jamaica Tourist Board, emphasized: “With an overall visitor rate of 42%, complementing our remarkable visitor arrival growth, we are confident that 2024 will be another record year.” Additionally, we continue to expand new air transport from key gateways and will be opening a number of new hotels throughout the year to support our tourism growth trajectory.”

In 2024, Jamaica expects to open the first 1,000 rooms of the 2,000-room Princess Grand Jamaica, the 753-room Riu Palace Aquarelle and the 450-room Unico Hotel in Montego Bay, adding 2,000 new rooms to its hotel inventory.

From the US alone, Jamaica will welcome a new service between Miami and Ocho Rios by American Airlines from February 24th and a new non-stop flight by Frontier from Cleveland to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay from March 9th.
