CLIA Nominate Royal Caribbean’s Jason Liberty as Chair

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) recently appointed Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and Royal Caribbean’s Group President and CEO Jason Liberty as President.

Liberty replaces Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO of MSC Cruises S.A., who has held this position since January 2021.

“On behalf of the CLIA community, which includes cruise lines, river and private cruise lines, suppliers, business partners, travel advisors and agencies, I would like to congratulate Mr. Liberty on his appointment as CLIA President. “Mr. Liberty comes to the presidency at a time when the industry is building on strong demand momentum and our members are advancing ambitious sustainability initiatives to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050,” said CLIA President and CEO Kelly Craighead. “Mr. Liberty is a versatile and strategic leader who will help us build on this resurgence in travel and achieve our global operational goals.”

“I also want to thank Mr. Vago for his leadership as president over the past three years, getting us through challenging times and creating a solid foundation for the industry’s future growth,” Craighead added.

About Liberty

Liberty became president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group in early 2022 after working in the cruise industry for nearly two decades and serving as the company’s chief financial officer for many years. It leads three industry-leading brands: Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises and Silversea, as well as joint ventures between Germany-based TUI Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, in which the company owns a 50 percent stake.

“I am excited and honored to lead this organization as we enter a new era in cruise. “As consumer demand continues to grow, we are strengthening our commitment to decarbonization and sustainable growth, ensuring we not only invest in our oceans and communities but also protect them for future generations of travelers,” Liberty said. “I look forward to working with CLIA’s leadership and our partners around the world to further position cruise holidays as an accessible and responsible option for today’s travelers and create a positive impact around the world.”
