Challenging and Strong Anticipated For Business Travel 2024

With the pandemic in the background, the global business travel industry is experiencing a wave of momentum as we enter 2024.

In a new Business Travel Outlook survey from the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), a majority of travel buyers report an increase in bookings and spending for 2023 and expect this year-over-year growth trend to continue as they also prioritize sustainable travel their organizations.

In fact, nearly 60 percent of travel shoppers expect more travel in the coming year, with two-thirds anticipating an increase in business travel spending.

Challenges ahead

But industry experts also expect future challenges, citing rising travel costs, general economic uncertainty, declining corporate budgets and travel disruptions as their biggest concerns.

And nearly half of travel buyers say the adoption of remote and hybrid workplace models has led them to revise their employees’ travel policies and programs. More than 700 travel professionals from 41 countries took part in this 33rd survey of the long-running GBTA survey.

“The business travel industry has started a new chapter and has moved beyond the pandemic. As companies and travelers continue to value the critical role of personal connections in their business, there are strong signs of continued growth in travel volume and spending in 2024,” said Suzanne Neufang, CEO of GBTA. “This bodes well for the future of our industry and its professionals – as we embrace the new challenges of ‘work travel’, continue to advocate for sustainable options and evolve business travel programs to ensure they are fit for purpose.
