Andrea Franklin named CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.


Andrea Franklin will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) effective April 1.

Franklin began his career in tourism in the 1990s as an account executive for Air Jamaica. He then worked at the former Barbados Tourism Authority – now BTMI – and held the positions of Manager, Product Integration and later Senior Business Development Manager in the New York office as part of the sales team. During this time, the company has built important networks with key business partners, including airlines, travel agencies and tour operators.

Her experience at the Barbados Tourism Authority prepared her for her highest-ranking position to date as CEO of Caves of Barbados – now Country Manager at Chukka Caribbean Adventures – where she has worked for the past five years. During his time there, he successfully managed the operations, marketing and finances of the regional company.

“SM. “Franklin is a local, educated and experienced professional in the tourism and hospitality industry who has worked his way up the ladder to reach the top position in tourism in Barbados,” said Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Hon. Ian Gooding-Edghill . “I have instructed the BTMI board to carefully search for someone suitable to fill this position and I am satisfied that he has fulfilled his mandate.”

Cheryl Carter named COO

The Minister also announced the appointment of Cheryl Carter, Director of BTMI in the UK, as the new Chief Operating Officer.

In order to ensure adequate succession planning and streamlining of BTMI’s operations, the Board has also agreed that the new CEO will be supported by a Chief Operations Officer (COO), Ms. Cheryl Carter, who will lead the operational functions of the organization to achieve streamlining to facilitate the acquisition of key skills and functions so that the CEO can focus on the strategic direction of the new company.

The COO will also be responsible for the leadership and performance of all external markets.

Carter is a seasoned tourism professional with over 26 years of industry experience. As interim head of global markets in the UK in 2019, he achieved the highest number of arrivals for Barbados from its main home market.

Additionally, over the years he has developed professional relationships with airlines and travel and tourism partners who value his leadership and leadership. She also led teams in Canada and North America during her directorship
